As winter storms advance bringing freezing temperatures to Syria, and with the continuation of the war and its massive implications and repercussions at all levels, which have greater influence on those living in conflict zones, fears arise of a renewed humanitarian crisis due to the significant shortage in shelter and heating supplies- a crisis that rendered many children die freezing last year.
A report by the Syria Centre for Human Rights notes that Syria has witnessed many cases of freezing to death during the past years, including 20 cases in 2014.
As means to help the needy and support the afflicted households, to not leave them alone in the face of the storm, ‘Beyaz Eller’ has launched its second ‘Warmth’ Campaign, in which all field teams in the Turkish borders and the Syrian inside have collaborated to set up plans and provide a greater number of heaters, clothing, and heating supplies, in addition to shelters for homeless families, along with all living essentials, to protect them against the freezing cold.
Winter assistance was distributed in Homs, Idlib, the Coast, Aleppo, Hama, Damascus countryside, and Dar’a, in addition to the Syrian camps along the Turkish borders. Our projects varied to cover different types of essentials; we distributed 22,849 blankets, 2,109 pillows, 5,668 floor mats, 2,941 heaters, 314,553 litres of heating oil, 2,675 tons of firewood, 315 tons of coal, in addition to 23,320 clothing sets. The total number of beneficiaries reached 312,727 individuals.
