In the midst of heated shelling and destruction, thousands of families are besieged in Eastern Ghouta. Suffering here reflects all multifaceted atrocities and inhumanity; from killing to displacement to loss of family members and loved ones to hunger for month on end. We in “Beyaz Eller” organization try to lessen the suffering and aid the needy by allocating aid from various international and regional aid organizations.
The dire need for assistance aroused from the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Eastern Ghouta. Aided by “White Hearts”, Egypt, we speeded with our efforts to provide life support for our families in the afflicted area. Our team prepared cooked meals of basic nutritional items (rice and meat) and distributed them to the besieged households in the shelters. Distribution took place after preparing lists of benefiting individuals to verify aid eligibility and ensure targeting the neediest recipients. 1,230 families consisting of 6,150 individuals received meals to lessen the difficulties they face under siege and shelling.
It is nearly impossible to gather the tales of suffering as words cannot express the atrocities we witnessed during the project. Some cases are terrible; one benefiter relates about his living conditions:
Another sitting aside staring unconsciously said:
“After I was in charge of a small family, my sister lost her husband and I became in charge of her and her three kids.”Adding:“I was full of hope previously and hoped to own a big construction company. I began with a small office but war and destruction made me lose everything and the only job I found was a manual job that barely made ends meet.”
“I lost my wife and kids due to war and now live a life full of misery, sorrow, fear, and constant displacement. I am trying to regain life.”
The ceaseless war in Syria inflicts more destruction and humanitarian misery. Our aim remains to increase our projects and services to help our families overcome this hardship, and to focus on useful projects that respond to a variety of humanitarian needs.
